Mission
We, the Mandalay Archdiocesan Family Commission, commit ourselves to
  • establishing a well-structured family commission in each diocese
  • empowering lay people to take active participation in the family ministry through effective
formation and capacity building programs.

Situation Analysis

Positive areas

Human Resources
-Family commission, interested people, Mothers Association, Fathers Association, and Infant Jesus Association.

Material Resources
-Literature, courses, documents.

Other Resources
-Different commisions helping out in the works of families.

Grey Areas

Human Resources
- lack of animated persons, lack of trained persons, lack of dialogue among the families, lack of interest of families.

Material Resources
- lack of literature, lack of office, budget, mass media, lack of marriage encounter and NFP course, family counseling, lack of rehabilitation center, lack of premarital course.

Other Resources
- lack of contact among the family members and with other families, lack of budget and support.

Action Plan

Goal I :To empower lay people for responsible participation in the life, mission and work of the Catholic Faith Community.

Objective: To Foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each lay person

Plan of Action

1.1 Establishing Diocesan Family Centre

Responsible Person: Archbishop, Councilors and Director of Family Commission
Expected Results: At the end of December 2008, Mandalay diocese must have set up Diocesan family Centre and action plans drawn up.
Within 1 year, Family Commissions must have formed in each parish.
Partners: Parish priest, religious, Pastoral Council
  • Implementation: January 2008 – December 2008

1.2 Employing fulltime staff and providing facilities and equipments for Diocesan Family Centre

Responsible Person: Archbishop, Councilors and Director of Family Commission
Expected Results: At the end of December 2008, Mandalay diocese must have appointed at least one fulltime staff equipped with office facilities.
Partners: Parish priest and diocesan Pastoral Council
  • Implementation: March 2008 – December 2008
 
1.3 Conducting Capacity Building programmes for Family Commission members and Teams of trainers such as Office Management, Organization development, Leadership and skills in

Accounting, Communication, Decision making,
Lead Group: Director and Family Commission members
Expected Results: By mid 2008, Family Commission members and teams of trainers must have been trained, equipped and ready to serve Family Commission’s planned activities.
Partners: NGOs, Karuna, OSC, Fr. Bosco Bo Bo, JP commission and CRS
  • Implementation: January 2008 – December 2010

1.4 Integrating and networking with church groups and NGOs for resources/ information sharing for migrant workers (International, national, inter-diocesan)

Lead Group: Family Commission members
Expected Results: Within 3 years, International, national and inter-diocesan networking programmes must have been started.

  • Implementation: October 2007 – October 2010

1.5 Establishing monitoring and evaluation committee for Family Commission

Lead Group: Archbishop, Family Commission director
Expected Results: Within 3 months, M & E committee must have been formed and accomplishing/ performing maintaining M & E the planned strategies of Family commission (Biannual).

Goal II: To reduce social problems within families

Objective: To assist family members for necessary Counselling and conduct marriage enrichment programmes

2.1 Setting up Diocesan Family Counselling centre

Lead Group: Archbishop, Family Commission director
Expected Results: Within 2 years, diocesan counselling centre must have been established.
Partners: NGOs, Psychologists and resource person
  • Implementation: March 2008 – December 2008

2.2 Conducting skills training for parish priest, religious leaders and trusties person

Lead Group: Family Commission director, Psychologist
Expected Results: Within 2 years, parish priest, religious leaders and trusties person must have been trained and helped parishioners.
Partners: NGOs and resource person
  • Implementation: June 2008 – December 2011

2.3 Providing pre and post counselling for marital instruction programmes, healing programmes for broken families and encouraging youth to enter into responsible marriage

Lead Group: Diocesan Family Counselling centre
Expected Results: Within 2 years, parishioners must have been provided counselling from centre.
Partners: NGOs, Parish priest and parishioners
  • Implementation: July 2008 – December 2011

2.4 Conducting marriage enrichment programmes for couples (CFC, NFP, ME, AFC ect….)
Lead Group: Dr. Yaw Han and family commission members
Expected Results: Within 2 years, above mentioned programmes must have been conducted and family members were living happily.
